Introduction
What it is
PassageMaster™ helps the crew stay oriented on this hull — planning context, vessel context, and situational awareness — while the captain remains responsible.
Built as a Progressive Web App for the tablet first. Phone use is glance-only. Built for cross-device convenience, and native iOS and Android apps are planned for later. They are not available in the App Store or Play Store today.
Quartermaster is the onboard AI assistant. It speaks structured, vessel-grounded context to help the crew think — not to replace the captain. It is not an “AI captain.”
What members use today
-
Harbor honesty
Harbor shows boat and environment context with honest labels when data is simulated, unavailable, or stale — never a fake “all green.”
-
Weather awareness
Harbor and Nearby weather glances use Open-Meteo for planning context, with source and freshness called out. Not a certified weather product; not in-app weather routing, not a recommended track, and not a leave-now call.
-
Passage Weather corridor packs (limited)
Active members can download along-passage Passage Weather packs (GFS / ECMWF) for on-device last-good planning context when the dish or router drops. Membership-gated — not free Open-Meteo, not a certified weather product, and not weather routing, isochrones, a recommended track, or a leave-now call.
-
Satellite-first map
Nearby, Planning, and Underway use a MapLibre satellite-first map for geographic context. Chart imagery, when shown, is decision-support — not official carriage.
-
AIS glance (honest empty)
AIS UI is situational awareness only. When no traffic picture is available, PassageMaster™ stays honestly empty — it does not imply “all clear.” Not collision avoidance.
-
Quartermaster briefs
Structured briefs with disclaimer. Decision-support; the captain decides.
Honest limits
- Decision-support only — not for navigation; not a certified chartplotter, ENC engine, or navigation instrument.
- Does not weather-route, compute isochrones, recommend a track, or make a leave-now call.
- No autopilot control and no NMEA transmit.
- Does not provide a working internet AIS traffic picture today.
